Series Info

The Formula GTi Regional Championship is a 10-Event, 20-Race, professional series, which runs at Kyalami, Zwartkops, Phakisa, and the Midvaal race tracks.

CARS


The cars are single-seat, open-wheel vehicles powered by 2000cc VW Golf engines developing 150 horsepower at 7000 RPM, and propelling the cars in excess of 190 kmh.

Engine

2000cc VW Golf, four-cylinder, single overhead cam, producing 150 horsepower at 7000 RPM.

Four-speed, quick-change HEWLAND racing transmission and Twin Weber 40mm carburetors.

CHASSIS

Primary manufacturers are SWIFT and RAY.

Tubular space frame, flat bottom with roll hoop and energy absorbing nose box.

BODYWORK

Aerodynamic moulded panels with quick release fasteners.

WHEELS

13-inch diameter 4-stud wheels of aluminum or light alloy construction, are fitted front and rear. Maximum front wheel width is six inches.

Rear wheels may be no more than ten 10" inches wide.

TYRES

Carrera racing slicks, and wet weather tyres are used by all teams.

Teams must race on the same tires they qualify on.

BRAKES

Four-wheel discs with front-to-rear bias adjustable from the cockpit, as track conditions warrant.

SUSPENSION

Fully independent front and rear with adjustable sway bars and shocks.

Newer models generally have pushrod suspension.

WEIGHT

Cars must weigh at least 550kg/s, including driver, as qualified or raced.

FUEL

All cars must use 95 Octane Unleaded pump fuel.
