Congratulations

  |
|
The end
of another successful Formula GTi Championship and much congratulations to the
new, deserved Champion – Francois van der Merwe, who, after a few hiccoughs
early in the year, put in some fantastic performances to show he was the class
of the field.

Congratulations
to Gordon Connelly on winning the 2004 Formula GTi Championship, and the same
goes to Louis van der Merwe, on winning the Class B Championship.
Carlo Sartor
managed to beat current Champion Tony Scott into 2nd place in the championship,
no doubt the great Scott will be back to reclaim his title in 2005.
The 2004 season
provided for very competitive racing, and after 16 races the qualifying avg. for
the top three drivers was Tony Scott 1.16.153, Gordon Connelly 1.16.269 and
Carlo Sartor 1.16.358
There can be no
doubt that the 2005 season will be even more competitive, with 24 cars on the
grid for the 1st race.
The newcomers
this year, Dave dos Santos - Craig Shelley - Wayne Munger - Chris Vermaak - Rod
Johnston, will certainly be giving the established guys a hard time, and watch
out for Chris Vermaak in the ex Johan Smith Swift, as well as ex Ferrari Modena
Europe competitor, Richard Bonnichsen competing in a new Swift 92.
Gary Whitehouse
will be returning to Class B for 2005, in a Ray 91, and Lushen Ramchander will
be competing in a newly prepared Swift 91. Louis van der Merwe will have
additional support from his brother competing in a similar Swift 91, and watch
out for Fernando dos Santos in a Swift 91!
With renewed
manufacturer & sponsorship interest in Formula GTi, it certainly seems that the
Associations strategy of cost effective, political free competition has proved
to be the way to go.
With project X
due for launch in early 2005, the formula’s 2x 3-seaters will provide
entertainment at various tracks, and serve as a valuable source of income, to
sustain and maintain the formula in the long term.
Formula GTi would
like to use this opportunity to thank HOLTS (race fuel) for their support - and
CALTEX for their lubricant sponsorship, and look forward to maintaining these
mutually beneficial relationships.
