CARS

The cars are single-seat, open-wheel vehicles powered by 2000cc VW Golf engines developing 150 horsepower at 6200 RPM, and propelling the cars in excess of 150 miles per hour.

Engine

2000cc VW Golf, four-cylinder, single overhead cam, producing 150 horsepower at 6200 RPM.

Four-speed, quick-change HEWLAND racing transmission and Twin Weber 40mm carburetors.

CHASSIS

Primary manufacturers are SWIFT and RAY.

Tubular space frame, flat bottom with roll hoop and energy absorbing nose box.

BODYWORK

Aerodynamic moulded panels with quick release fasteners.

WHEELS

13-inch diameter 4-stud wheels of aluminum or light alloy construction, are fitted front and rear. Maximum front wheel width is six inches.

Rear wheels may be no more than eight inches wide.

TYRES

Silverstone racing slicks, and wet weather tyres are used by all teams.

Teams must race on the same tires they qualify on.

BRAKES

Four-wheel discs with front-to-rear bias adjustable from the cockpit, as track conditions warrant.

SUSPENSION

Fully independent front and rear with adjustable sway bars and shocks.

Newer models generally have pushrod suspension.

WEIGHT

Cars must weigh at least 550kg/s, including driver, as qualified or raced.

FUEL

All cars must use 102 Octane rated fuel as supplied.

 

  Formula GTi - Silver Cup Challenge
The Silver Cup Challenge is created for the GTi driver over the age of 45 years, it is a championship within a championship that will run from Zwartkops till the end of the year when a Silver Cup Champion will be declared. Rules of the challenge:- 1.) Only open to drivers over the age of 45. 
2.) If a driver finishes a heat in the top 3, on the day, he will not score points in the challenge for that heat.
3.) A driver who has won a race this year is not eligible for the challenge. 
4.) Double points will be scored at Phakisa. 
5.) If a competitor improves on his fastest lap in qualifying in heat 1 he will be allocated 1 bonus point, and if he improves on his first heat fastest lap in heat 2, he will be allocated another bonus point. Please no sandbagging allowed! 
Points scoring:
 1st –  9 points
 2nd – 6 points
 3rd – 4 points
 4th – 3 points
 5th – 2 points
 6th - 1 point
There will be a trophy for the winner at each event for the driver with the most points on the day.
