Brittany Vorster in the USA

South African racing driver Brittany Vorster has recently returned home to South African after a successful qualifying test at Sebring International Raceway, in Florida USA.

Chosen as one of 50 out of 600 potential drivers and amidst extremely tough competition, Brittany was able to hold her own against some of the best international racing drivers.

Hosted by Mazda, BF Goodrich and Skip Barber, this test ran over a period of four days.

The drivers skills were put to the test in both the skidpan and on the obstacle course, as well as a lot of on-track driving, which tested the drivers overall driving ability. Consistency was high on the agenda.

As the final day approached and the pressure mounted, the danger of the sport became a reality when seven of the drivers narrowly escaped injury as they made acquaintance with the notorious concrete wall on the fast final turn of the track, luckily Brittany was not one of them.

The competition was extensive and the top 26 drivers were separated by less than half a second. The powerful engines and less than stable chassis took it’s toll over the last 3 days which included nine 25 minute sessions. “The depth of experience was incredible”, says Britt who had to compete with drivers as young as 16 with two years experience in formula BMW and Renault. The oldest was 32 and the American philosophy is not about age but getting the job done.

This opportunity has allowed Brittany to meet with top drivers and team bosses in these categories.

“It was an amazing experience and the drivers were both extremely professional and very welcoming. The fact that I am a female in a male dominated sport did not hamper my chances of proving what I can do. I found the guys very accepting of me as a driver. It was great and I have brought home with me a wealth of experience,” Britt said on her return.

Although Britt finished extremely well, this experience opened her eyes to the intensity of international competition..
